15 лютого в Україні відзначають День вшанування учасників бойових дій на території інших держав. З цієї нагоди у народному музеї історії ПДМУ відбулася зустріч студентів-медиків та викладачів із військовослужбовцями, які брали участь у військових конфліктах за межами України, зокрема, в Афганістані, а також захищали нашу країну у війні з російським агресором.
Відкриваючи захід, проректор з науково-педагогічної та виховної роботи ПДМУ, професор Валерій Похилько наголосив на важливості подібних зустрічей для молодого покоління. Він підкреслив, що пам’ять про тих, хто віддали своє життя, виконуючи військовий обов’язок, має стати основою для розуміння сучасних подій:
«Сьогодні ми вшановуємо пам’ять тих, хто віддали своє життя, виконуючи військовий обов’язок за межами нашої країни – в Афганістані. Сьогодні ж їхні побратими, мужні воїни, продовжують захищати Україну у війні проти російського агресора. Вони, як і всі ми, мріють про спільне мирне майбутнє для нашої держави».
З особистими історіями перед студентами виступили ветерани війни в Афганістані (1979-1989) та учасники російсько-Української війни. Вони не лише поділилися спогадами, а й розповіли про свою військову службу, важкі випробування та власний досвід боротьби за незалежність України.
Одним із гостей став капітан ЗСУ у відставці Микола Сапьян. Він розповів про службу в прикордонних військах, бойові завдання в Афганістані та подальшу участь у повномасштабній війні проти російських окупантів. У 2022 році він знову став до лав ЗСУ, воював на Сумському напрямку, у Соледарі, Кураховому, Селідовому, Покровську, де отримав поранення та контузії. Після звільнення зі служби з особливою вдячністю згадує роботу медиків, які щодня рятують життя військових.
Про свій бойовий шлях розповів і Володимир Корнійчук, військовослужбовець ЗСУ у відставці. Він пригадав службу в Афганістані, важкі умови виконання завдань та низьке матеріальне забезпечення. У 2022 році з початку повномасштабної війни знову взяв до рук зброю, захищаючи Україну. Воював у Гадяцькому сафарі, брав участь у боях за Чернігів, Суми, Харківщину, Донбас. Обидва його сини також обрали військову професію, продовжуючи справу батька. Сам же Володимир, маючи статус інваліда війни, у 2024 році був демобілізований після отриманих поранень.
Такі зустрічі не лише наближають студентів-медиків до реального розуміння історичних подій, а й допомагають усвідомити виклики, які сьогодні стоять перед Україною. Військові поділилися не лише спогадами, а й важливими життєвими уроками, що надихають молодь на відповідальність перед своєю країною та професійний вибір.
На зустріч завітали першокурсники Фахового медико-фармацевтичного коледжу ПДМУ, а також представники кафедри філософії та суспільних наук, відділу управління освітньо-виховної та гуманітарної роботи з молоддю університету. Такі заходи є важливими для формування громадянської позиції молодого покоління та збереження історичної пам’яті.
PSMU honors combat veterans who served in foreign conflicts
On February 15, Ukraine observes the Day of Remembrance for Combat Veterans Who Served in Foreign Conflicts. To mark this occasion, the People's Museum of History at PSMU hosted a meeting between medical students, faculty members, and military personnel who had participated in conflicts outside Ukraine, particularly in Afghanistan, as well as those who have defended the country in the war against russian aggression.
Opening the event, Professor Valerii Pokhylko, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Extracuricular Activities at PSMU, emphasized the significance of such meetings for younger generations. He highlighted that remembering those who gave their lives in military service is crucial for understanding current events:
"Today, we honor the memory of those who sacrificed their lives fulfilling their military duty beyond our country's borders, in Afghanistan. Now, their comrades—brave warriors—continue to defend Ukraine in the war against russian aggression. Like all of us, they dream of a peaceful future for our country."
Veterans of the Soviet-Afghan War (1979–1989) and participants in the ongoing russo-Ukrainian War shared their personal stories with the students. They spoke not only about their memories but also about their military service, the challenges they faced, and their firsthand experiences in the struggle for Ukraine’s independence.
One of the guests was retired Captain Mykola Sapiian of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). He recounted his service in the border troops, combat missions in Afghanistan, and his later involvement in the full-scale war against russian invaders. In 2022, he rejoined the AFU, fighting in the Sumy region, Soledar, Kurakhove, Selydove and Pokrovsk, where he sustained injuries and concussions. After being discharged, he expressed deep gratitude for the medical professionals who save the lives of soldiers every day.
Another speaker, retired AFU serviceman Volodymyr Korniichuk, shared his military journey. He recalled his service in Afghanistan, the harsh conditions in which tasks were carried out, and the limited resources available at the time. At the start of the full-scale war in 2022, he once again took up arms to defend Ukraine. He fought in the Hadiach Safari operation and participated in battles for Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Donbas. Both of his sons have also chosen military careers, continuing their father’s legacy. Due to injuries sustained in battle, Volodymyr, now a war veteran with a disability status, was demobilized in 2024.
These meetings not only bring medical students closer to understanding historical events but also help them grasp the challenges Ukraine faces today. The veterans shared not just their memories but also valuable life lessons, inspiring young people to take responsibility for their country and their professional paths.
The event was attended by the first-year students of the PSMU Professional Medical and Pharmaceutical College, as well as representatives from the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences and the university’s Department of Educational, Training and Humanitarian Work with Youth. Such events play a crucial role in shaping the civic consciousness of young people and preserving historical memory.
