21 листопада — дата, яка нагадує Україні та світу: свобода й гідність ніколи не діставалися легко. Їх доводилося виборювати на Майданах 2004-го та 2013–2014 років, і сьогодні вони відстоюються на фронті та в щоденних рішеннях кожного громадянина. Помаранчева революція й Революція Гідності стали ключовими моментами новітньої історії, коли українці відстоювали право на демократію, справедливість і європейський шлях розвитку. Боротьба, яку вони розпочали тоді, триває й нині в значно складніших умовах повномасштабної війни.

Студенти та викладачі ПДМУ зібралися у центральному фоє університету, щоб згадати революційні події, які стали символом боротьби за свободу.

Зустріч відкрив проректор з науково-педагогічної та виховної роботи, професор Валерій Похилько. Він наголосив на важливості глибокого вивчення української історії, адже саме знання причин і наслідків минулих подій допомагає зрозуміти сучасність і формує відповідальність за майбутнє країни.

Запрошена гостя, старший науковий співробітник відділу новітньої історії Полтавського краєзнавчого музею імені В. Кричевського Наталія Кузьменко, провела історичний екскурс у перебіг і передумови Помаранчевої революції та Революції Гідності. Вона нагадала, що 20 листопада в Україні відзначають День пам’яті Героїв Небесної Сотні, а 21 листопада — День Гідності та Свободи, заснований на честь початку двох революцій. Цьогорічне офіційне гасло — «День Гідності та Свободи – щодня, без вихідних» — підкреслює постійність боротьби за цінності, які роблять націю зрілою та відповідальною.

Після зустрічі учасники відвідали народний музей історії ПДМУ. Біля експозиції, присвяченої медикам-захисникам, професор Валерій Похилько розповів про студентів і викладачів університету, які нині служать на передовій. Зокрема, він розповів про завідувача кафедри хірургії № 3, професора Сергія Панасенка — одного з медиків, які пішли на фронт у перші дні повномасштабного вторгнення і досі рятують життя військових на Харківському напрямку.

Також присутні вшанували пам'ять медиків, студентів і працівників ПДМУ, які загинули, захищаючи Свободу та Незалежність України.

У зустрічі взяли участь викладачі й студенти кафедр українознавства та гуманітарної підготовки, філософії, мікробіології, вірусології та імунології, біології, іноземних мов з латинською мовою та медичною термінологією, а також співробітники відділу виховної та гуманітарної роботи з молоддю, бібліотеки та представники деканату медичного факультету № 2.

Гідність і свобода — це не лише пам’ятна дата в календарі української історії. Це вибір, який Україна робить щодня, і сила, яку ми разом утверджуємо у пам’яті, діях та відповідальності.

Day of Dignity and Freedom – Every Day, Without Days Off”: PSMU Reflects on the Events That Changed the Country

November 21 is a date that reminds Ukraine and the world that freedom and dignity have never come easily. They were fought for on the Maidans of 2004 and 2013–2014, and today they are defended both on the front lines and in the everyday choices of every citizen. The Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity became pivotal moments in modern history when Ukrainians stood up for democracy, justice, and the European path of development. The struggle that began then continues today amid the far more challenging reality of the full-scale war

Students and lecturers of PSMU gathered in the university’s central foyer to honor the revolutionary events that became a symbol of the fight for freedom.

The meeting was opened by Professor Valerii Pokhylko, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Extracurricular Activities. He emphasized the importance of studying Ukrainian history, noting that understanding the causes and consequences of past events helps us interpret the present and shapes our responsibility for the country’s future.

The invited guest, Nataliia Kuzmenko, Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Modern History of the Poltava Local History Museum named after V. Krychevsky, delivered a historical overview of the course and preconditions of the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity. She reminded attendees that November 20 is the Day of Remembrance of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, and November 21 is the Day of Dignity and Freedom, established to honor the beginning of these two revolutions. This year’s official motto — “Day of Dignity and Freedom – every day, without days off” — underscores the continuous nature of the struggle for the values that make a nation mature and responsible.

After the meeting, participants visited the PSMU People’s Museum of History. At the exhibition dedicated to medical defenders, Professor Valerii Pokhylko spoke about the university’s students and staff currently serving on the front line. In particular, he shared the story of Professor Serhii Panasenko, Head of the Department of Surgery No. 3, who was among the first to join the military in the early days of the full-scale invasion and continues to save the lives of servicemen in the Kharkiv sector.

Attendees also honored the memory of PSMU medical workers, students, and staff who lost their lives defending Ukraine’s freedom and independence.

The meeting was attended by lecturers and students from the Departments of Ukrainian Studies and Humanities; Philosophy; Microbiology, Virology and Immunology; Biology; Foreign Languages with Latin and Medical Terminology, as well as staff from the Department of Educational and Youth Work, the university library, and representatives of the Dean’s Office of Medical Faculty No. 2.

Dignity and freedom are not just a commemorative date in Ukraine’s history — they are a daily choice and a source of strength that we affirm together through memory, action, and responsibility.
