3-ого лютого 1864 року у містечку Великі Сорочинці на Полтавщині народився Володимир Самійленко – поет-лірик, сатирик, драматург та перекладач, якому цього року виповнюється 160 років від дня народження. On February 3, 1864, in the town of Velyki Sorochintsi in Poltava region, Volodymyr Samiilenko was born - a poet-lyricist, satirist, playwright and translator, who celebrates his 160th birthday this year. Samiilenko's truthful, pure, and sometimes quite "biting" humor rises to true sarcasm when the poet addresses civic issues. An outstanding aspect of V. Samiilenko's poetic work is his landscape and intimate lyrics. Nevertheless, he was a brilliant master of satire and humor.
The themes of "search for the purpose of life," the contradiction between the ideals of truth and goodness, the "futility of vain striving for glory," the inclination towards something higher - these motives in Samiilenko's poetry fascinated Ivan Franko himself.
