Background
Volodymyr Shepitko is a Ukrainian histologist and Professor of the Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology at Poltava State Medical University.
He is the author and co-author of more than 715 scientific and research works, of which 14 articles are in journals indexed by "Scopus" database (h-index: 2). Co-author of 27 patents, including 17 patents for utility models and 10 patents for inventions; 14 author's certificates and other educational, methodological, and scientific-pedagogical works; 73 textbooks on Histology, Cytology, and Embryology; practical manuals; and methodological developments.
Volodymyr Shepitko graduated from the Poltava Medical Dental Institute in 1972 with a degree in dentistry and worked in this field until 1976.
From 1976 to 1994 he worked at the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy of the Poltava Medical and Dental Institute (PMDI) and since 1994 at the Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy (UMSA). During his career, he held positions ranging from senior laboratory assistant to professor.
In 1984, he defended his PhD thesis “Surgical Anatomy of the Extracranial Section of the Vertebral Artery in Elderly and Senile Individuals” (supervisor – Prof. M.S. Skrypnikov), which was awarded as the best work among young scientists in 1984. He headed the Preparatory Department from 1988 to 1991 and served as deputy Dean of the Medical faculty from 1991 to 2000.
In 2005, he defended his doctoral dissertation “Structural and functional indicators of cryopreserved placenta and the effect of its transplantation on the morphofunctional state of a number of internal organs,” scientific advisor – Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine V.I. Gryshchenko.
Professor Volodymyr Shepitko headed the Department of Histology, Cytology, and Embryology from 2004 to 2024. Under the supervision of Volodymyr Shepitko, 1 doctoral dissertation and 13 candidate dissertations have been defended
