30 квітня 2026 року в університетській бібліотеці Полтавського державного медичного університету відбулася презентація книги лікаря-інфекціоніста, випускника університету Романа Пономаренка – «Інфекції всюди. Застуда, герпес та інші сусіди людства». Захід, присвячений 105-річчю ПДМУ, зібрав студентів, викладачів і гостей навколо теми сучасної медицини та популяризації знань.
Видання, що вийшло друком у 2025 році у видавництві «Віхола», є науково-популярною книгою, яка доступно пояснює складні медичні питання. У ній зібрані відповіді на поширені запитання про інфекційні захворювання: як діяти при підвищеній температурі, коли варто звертатися до лікаря та чи ефективні народні методи лікування. Автор спирається на принципи доказової медицини й власний практичний досвід, подаючи матеріал через реальні історії.
Про актуальність теми інфекційних захворювань та важливість обізнаності суспільства на початку заходу наголосив проректор з науково-педагогічної та виховної роботи ПДМУ, професор Валерій Похилько:
«Тема інфекцій надзвичайно актуальна, особливо після пандемії COVID-19, яка принесла значні втрати. Інфекційні захворювання супроводжують людину з народження і впливають на якість життя, тому профілактика та обізнаність є критично важливими. Сьогодні інфекції стають більш агресивними, тому важливо своєчасно інформувати суспільство і запобігати хворобам».
Окрему увагу під час презентації приділили ролі лікаря як просвітника та необхідності доносити складну медичну інформацію у зрозумілій формі. Сам автор поділився історією створення книги та її ідеєю.
Роман Пономаренко зазначив:
«Працюю в обласному інфекційному центрі, де разом з колегами надаємо допомогу пацієнтам із інфекційними захворюваннями. Ідея книги виникла завдяки блогу, який веду з 2019 року, писав її дев’ять місяців, і у 2025 році вона була видана. Книга розповідає про інфекції, з якими стикається кожен. Через реальні історії в книзі пояснюю, як діяти в різних ситуаціях. Це науково-популярне видання для широкого кола читачів. Роботу інфекціоніста можна порівняти з детективом, де кожен випадок – це окрема історія, яка потребує аналізу й пошуку рішення».
До заходу долучилися також представники обласної влади, які підкреслили важливість підтримки українських авторів і розвитку просвітницької літератури. Зокрема, Оксана Лісан, начальник відділу Департаменту інформаційної діяльності та комунікацій з громадськістю Полтавської ОВА, зазначила, що такі презентації вкотре підтверджують високий рівень полтавської медичної школи. За її словами, створення фахової, але водночас доступної для широкого читача книги є відповідальним завданням. Вона також наголосила, що обласний департамент упродовж багатьох років підтримував місцевих авторів, фінансуючи видання соціально важливої літератури, однак нині ці програми призупинені через війну, попри сподівання на їх відновлення.
Роман Пономаренко – випускник ПДМУ (тоді УМСА) 2018 року, сьогодні він поєднує практичну медицину з активною просвітницькою діяльністю. Його книга стала ще одним кроком до формування свідомого ставлення до здоров’я та популяризації доказової медицини.
Захід завершився живим спілкуванням з автором. Усі охочі мали змогу поставити запитання та придбати книгу з автографом.

“Infections Are Everywhere”: PSMU Graduate Presents a Book for the University’s 105th Anniversary
On April 30, 2026, a book presentation took place at the university library of Poltava State Medical University. The author, infectious disease physician and university graduate Roman Ponomarenko, introduced his book “Infections Are Everywhere. The Common Cold, Herpes, and Other Neighbors of Humanity.” The event, dedicated to the 105th anniversary of PSMU, brought together students, faculty, and guests around the topic of modern medicine and the popularization of knowledge.
Published in 2025 by Vikhola Publishing House, the book is a popular science work that explains complex medical issues in an accessible way. It provides answers to common questions about infectious diseases: how to respond to a fever, when to see a doctor, and whether folk remedies are effective. The author relies on the principles of evidence-based medicine and his own practical experience, presenting the material through real-life stories.
At the beginning of the event, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Extracurricular Activities at PSMU, Professor Valerii Pokhylko, emphasized the relevance of infectious diseases and the importance of public awareness:
“The topic of infections is extremely relevant, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought significant losses. Infectious diseases accompany people from birth and affect quality of life, so prevention and awareness are critically important. Today, infections are becoming more aggressive, which makes it essential to inform society in a timely manner and prevent diseases.”
Particular attention during the presentation was given to the role of physicians as educators and the need to communicate complex medical information in a clear and understandable way. The author himself shared the story behind the creation of the book and its main idea.
Roman Ponomarenko noted:
“I work at a regional infectious disease center, where my colleagues and I provide care to patients with infectious diseases. The idea for the book emerged from a blog I have been running since 2019. I spent nine months writing it, and it was published in 2025. The book talks about infections that everyone encounters. Through real-life stories, I explain how to act in different situations. It is a popular science publication intended for a wide audience. The work of an infectious disease specialist can be compared to that of a detective, where each case is a separate story requiring analysis and the search for solutions.”
Representatives of the regional authorities also attended the event, emphasizing the importance of supporting Ukrainian authors and developing educational literature. In particular, Oksana Lisan, Head of a Department at the Department of Information Activities and Public Communications of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, noted that such presentations once again confirm the high level of the Poltava medical school. According to her, creating a professional yet accessible book for a broad audience is a responsible task. She also подчеркнула that the regional department had supported local authors for many years by funding socially important publications, although these programs are currently suspended due to the war, with hopes for their future restoration.
Roman Ponomarenko, a graduate of PSMU (then UMSA) in 2018, now combines practical medicine with active educational outreach. His book has become another step toward fostering a conscious attitude to health and promoting evidence-based medicine.
The event concluded with a lively discussion with the author. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and purchase a signed copy of the book.
