У Полтавському державному медичному університеті відбувся круглий стіл за участі ліквідаторів Чорнобильської катастрофи, присвячений Дню пам’яті жертв аварії на ЧАЕС 1986 року. Захід традиційно проходить напередодні 26 квітня на кафедрі онкології та радіології з радіаційною медициною ПДМУ за участі студентів V–VI курсів медичного факультету №1, науково-педагогічних працівників університету та ліквідаторів наслідків аварії.
23 квітня 2026 року, напередодні 40-ї річниці трагедії, відбулася чергова зустріч у форматі круглого столу, яка об’єднала викладачів, студентів, ліквідаторів аварії та запрошених гостей.
Свої спогади та професійний досвід представили три ліквідатори аварії на ЧАЕС – представники ПДМУ:
Вадим Новіков – старший лейтенант медичної служби запасу, завідувач кафедри пропедевтики хірургічної стоматології, професор ПДМУ. У травні 1986 року перебував у зоні ЧАЕС під час проходження військової служби, виконував обов’язки фельдшера медичного пункту Лубенської дивізії.
Віктор Лебедєв – фахівець відділу управління освітньо-виховною та гуманітарною роботою з молоддю, голова ради ветеранів ПДМУ. У серпні–вересні 1986 року працював у складі зведеної автоколони Полтавського облавтодору в 30-кілометровій зоні ЧАЕС, брав участь у будівництві автодоріг.
Валерій Бондаренко – полковник медичної служби запасу, кандидат медичних наук, колишній асистент кафедри хірургічної стоматології та щелепно-лицевої хірургії. У 1987 році працював у зоні ліквідації наслідків аварії на ЧАЕС як фельдшер військового шпиталю, здійснював дозиметричний контроль та брав участь у роботах із розчищення територій.
Захід організували в.о. завідувача кафедри онкології та радіології з радіаційною медициною ПДМУ, доцент Оксана Муковоз, разом із професорами Володимиром Баштаном, Вікторією Почерняєвою, Анатолієм Чорнобаєм та доцентом Валерієм Марченком.
Загалом у ПДМУ нині працює та перебуває на заслуженому відпочинку дев’ять ліквідаторів наслідків аварії на ЧАЕС.
Серед працюючих співробітників університету:
ректор ПДМУ, професор Вячеслав Ждан; кандидат медичних наук, доцент кафедри хірургії №1 Іван Нємченко; начальник навчальної частини кафедри медицини катастроф та військової медицини Віталій Колачинський; начальник відділу охорони праці ПДМУ Олександр Антоненко; професор Вадим Новіков; голова ради ветеранів ПДМУ Віктор Лебедєв.
Серед ліквідаторів, які нині перебувають на пенсії:
Валентина Кисла – лаборантка кафедри ортопедичної стоматології з імплантологією;
Віктор Решетник – водій господарської частини ПДМУ;
Валерій Бондаренко – асистент кафедри хірургічної та щелепно-лицевої хірургії з пластичною та реконструктивною хірургією голови та шиї.
До участі в заході також були запрошені:
Іван Якушев – заступник голови Полтавської обласної організації інвалідів війни, Збройних сил, учасників бойових дій та силових структур, ліквідатор наслідків аварії на ЧАЕС;
Ксенія Нікітчук – голова ГО «Союз Чорнобиль» Шевченківського району м. Полтава, постраждала внаслідок аварії на ЧАЕС, колишня мешканка м. Прип’ять.
Під час круглого столу було представлено відеопрезентацію «Чорнобиль не має минулого часу». Учасники поділилися спогадами про ліквідацію наслідків аварії, евакуацію населення Чорнобильського району, вплив радіації на здоров’я людей, а також подальшу долю ЧАЕС і міста Прип’ять. Студенти мали можливість поставити запитання та отримати відповіді від безпосередніх учасників подій.
Також було обговорено внесок працівників університету, які у 1986–1987 роках брали участь у ліквідації наслідків аварії на ЧАЕС, а також медичні та соціальні наслідки радіаційного впливу. Окрему увагу приділили зв’язку між аварією та розвитком онкологічних захворювань, зокрема раку щитоподібної залози, лейкемії та інших патологій.
Професор кафедри онкології та радіології з радіаційною медициною ПДМУ Володимир Баштан від імені колективу кафедри та студентства ПДМУ висловив подяку ліквідаторам, побажав міцного здоров’я, професійних успіхів і добробуту, а також наголосив на важливості усвідомлення майбутніми лікарями значення обраної професії.
Учасники зустрічі підкреслили, що завдяки самовідданій праці ліквідаторів сьогодні можливе життя, навчання і професійна діяльність – усе те, що становить цінність людського буття.
На завершення заходу учасники зробили пам’ятне фото біля інформаційного стенду «40 років Чорнобиля: пам’ятаємо заради майбутнього», що розташований у центральному холі університету.

Round Table with Chernobyl disaster Liquidators: A Meeting of Generations and Memory
At Poltava State Medical University, a round table was held with the participation of liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster, dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the victims of the 1986 accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The event is traditionally organized on the eve of April 26 by the Department of Oncology and Radiology with Radiation Medicine of PSMU, with the participation of 5th–6th year students of Medical Faculty No. 1, academic staff of the university, and liquidators of the accident’s consequences.
On April 23, 2026, on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the tragedy, another round table meeting took place, bringing together lecturers, students, liquidators, and invited guests.
Three liquidators of the Chernobyl accident—representatives of PSMU—shared their memories and professional experience:
Vadym Novikov – Senior Lieutenant of the Reserve Medical Service, Head of the Department of Propaedeutics of Oral Surgery, Professor at PSMU. In May 1986, he was in the Chernobyl zone during his military service, serving as a paramedic at the medical station of the Lubny division.
Viktor Lebedev – Specialist of the Department for Educational and Humanitarian Work with Youth, Head of the Veterans Council of PSMU. In August–September 1986, he worked as part of a consolidated motor convoy of the Poltava Regional Road Administration in the 30-km exclusion zone, participating in road construction.
Valerii Bondarenko – Colonel of the Reserve Medical Service, Candidate of Medical Sciences, former assistant of the Department of Surgical Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery. In 1987, he worked in the liquidation zone as a paramedic at a military hospital, carried out dosimetric monitoring, and participated in territory decontamination works.
The event was organized by Acting Head of the Department of Oncology and Radiology with Radiation Medicine, Associate Professor Oksana Mukovoz, together with Professors Volodymyr Bashtan, Viktoriia Pocherniaieva, Anatolii Chornobai, and Associate Professor Valerii Marchenko.
In total, nine liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster currently work at or are retired from PSMU.
Among the current staff are: Rector, Professor Viacheslav Zhdan; PhD in Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Surgery No. 1 Ivan Niemchenko; Head of the Educational Unit of the Department of Disaster Medicine and Military Medicine Vitalii Kolachynskyi; Head of the Occupational Safety Department Oleksandr Antonenko; Professor Vadym Novikov; and Head of the Veterans Council Viktor Lebedev.
Among the retired liquidators are:
Valentyna Kysla – laboratory assistant at the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry with Implantology;
Viktor Reshetnyk – driver of the university’s maintenance department;
Valerii Bondarenko – assistant of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Head and Neck.
Invited participants included:
Ivan Yakushev – Deputy Head of the Poltava Regional Organization of War Veterans, Armed Forces, Combatants, and Law Enforcement Agencies, and a Chernobyl liquidator;
Kseniia Nikitchuk – Head of the NGO “Union Chernobyl” of the Shevchenkivskyi district of Poltava, a person affected by the disaster and a former resident of Pripyat.
During the round table, a video presentation titled “Chernobyl Has No Past Tense” was shown. Participants shared their memories of the liquidation efforts, the evacuation of the population from the Chernobyl district, the impact of radiation on human health, and the subsequent fate of the power plant and the city of Pripyat. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers directly from eyewitnesses and participants.
The discussion also covered the contribution of university staff who participated in the liquidation efforts in 1986–1987, as well as the medical and social consequences of radiation exposure. Particular attention was paid to the link between the accident and the development of oncological diseases, including thyroid cancer, leukemia, and other pathologies.
On behalf of the department and the PSMU student community, Professor Volodymyr Bashtan expressed gratitude to the liquidators, wishing them good health, professional success, and well-being, and emphasized the importance for future doctors to understand the significance of their chosen profession.
Participants stressed that thanks to the selfless work of the liquidators, life, education, and professional activity are possible today—everything that constitutes the value of human existence.
The event concluded with a commemorative photo taken near the information stand “40 Years of Chernobyl: Remembering for the Sake of the Future”, located in the central hall of the university.
