27 травня 2026 р. на базі Полтавського державного медичного університету відбулася знакова подія ‒ Інтелектуальні змагання з латинської мови та медичної термінології, що об’єднала представників чотирьох медичних університетів ‒ Полтавського, Буковинського, Івано-Франківського та ПВНЗ «Київський медичний університет».
Цей масштабний захід вкотре продемонстрував, що латина ‒ це не просто мова і термінологія, а код медицини, який формує термінологічну компетентність і професійне мислення майбутнього лікаря, слугуючи sui generis перепусткою в медичну спільноту. Ці змагання ‒ це не про «зубріння», а про точність, логіку, уважність, тайм-менеджмент, уміння швидко мислити і реагувати.
Варто наголосити, що в складні часи, які наразі переживає наша країна, значення таких ініціатив лише зростає і демонструє прагнення наших студентів стати справжніми фахівцями, долучитися до таємниць фахової мови, а також прагнення викладачів усіляко сприяти реалізації цієї благородної мети.
Такі змагання ‒ це також про спільноту, про студентів, які ростуть у професії, підтримують одне одного, вчаться мислити глибше і впевненіше входять у медицину. Адже майбутнє української медицини починається з точного латинського терміна ‒ анатомічного, клінічного, фармацевтичного, уміння доречно використати латинський афоризм, або усталену латинськомовну конструкцію, зрозумілу вченим в усьому світі.

Latin as the Code of Medicine: Intellectual Competitions for Future Physicians
On May 27, 2026, Poltava State Medical University hosted a landmark event ‒ the Intellectual Competition in Latin Language and Medical Terminology, which brought together representatives of four medical universities: Poltava State Medical University, Bukovinian State Medical University, Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University, and the Private Higher Educational Institution «Kyiv Medical University».
This large-scale event once again demonstrated that Latin is not merely a language or a system of terminology, but rather the very code of medicine, shaping terminological competence and the professional thinking of future physicians, serving sui generis as a gateway into the medical community. These competitions are not about rote memorization, but about precision, logic, attentiveness, time management, and the ability to think and respond quickly.
It is important to emphasize that in the challenging times our country is currently facing, the significance of such initiatives is only increasing, reflecting both the strong commitment of our students to becoming true professionals and to mastering the «secrets» of medical language, as well as the dedication of academic staff to supporting this noble goal.
Such competitions are also about community ‒ about students who grow within their profession, support one another, learn to think more deeply, and enter the field of medicine with greater confidence. After all, the future of Ukrainian medicine begins with a precise Latin term ‒ anatomical, clinical, or pharmaceutical ‒ and with the ability to appropriately use Latin aphorisms or established Latin expressions understood by scholars worldwide.
