До Міжнародного дня культурного розмаїття для діалогу та розвитку, проголошеного ЮНЕСКО у 2001 році та який щорічно відзначається 21 травня і покликаний нагадати про важливість взаєморозуміння між народами, поваги до культурних відмінностей, збереження мов, традицій і духовних цінностей, під патронатом ПОВА на базі Полтавської обласної універсальної наукової бібліотеки імені І. П. Котляревського відбувся просвітницько-виховний захід «Караїми Полтавської губернії».
Метою заходу стало ознайомлення присутніх із культурною спадщиною цього маловідомого, але надзвичайно цікавого народу – караїмів. Подія стала частиною циклу тематичних заходів «Україна: історія, культура, майбутнє».
Головним експертом зустрічі виступив Олександр Лимар, історик, старший науковий співробітник Полтавського краєзнавчого музею імені Василя Кричевського. На заході, крім зацікавлених жителів міста, були присутні науково-педагогічні працівники кафедри іноземних мов з латинською мовою та медичною термінологією на чолі із завідувачем кафедри, доцентом Оленою Бєляєвою, а також студенти 4, 9 і 12 груп першого курсу стоматологічного факультету ПДМУ.
Майбутні стоматологи мали змогу ознайомитися з історією одного з найдавніших народів Східної Європи, чия доля нерозривно пов’язана з Україною – країною, що здавна славиться миролюбством і багатовіковими традиціями співіснування різних народів, мов і релігій, – караїмів, а також із особливостями їхнього походження, релігії, побуту, традицій і культури.
Окрему увагу було приділено історії караїмської громади на території Полтавської губернії та її внеску в розвиток торгівлі, освіти та міжкультурних зв’язків.
У сучасному світі, де суспільства дедалі більше взаємодіють між собою, особливо важливо формувати в молодого покоління толерантність, відкритість до інших культур та усвідомлення того, що культурне різноманіття є не перешкодою, а джерелом розвитку та взаємного збагачення.
Для присутніх це також була можливість розширити світогляд, навчитися критично осмислювати історичні процеси й укотре усвідомити цінність людської гідності незалежно від етнічного чи релігійного походження.

Intercultural Dialogue Through the Prism of the History of the Karaims of the Poltava Region: Educational Event for Medical Students
On the occasion of the International Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, proclaimed by UNESCO in 2001 and annually observed on May 21 to emphasize the importance of mutual understanding among peoples, respect for cultural differences, and preservation of languages, traditions, and spiritual values, an educational and awareness-raising event entitled “The Karaims of the Poltava Governorate” was held under the patronage of the Poltava Regional Military Administration at the Poltava Regional Universal Scientific Library named after I. P. Kotliarevskyi.
The aim of the event was to familiarize attendees with the cultural heritage of the Karaims, a little-known yet exceptionally interesting people. The event became part of the thematic series “Ukraine: History, Culture, Future.”
The keynote speaker of the meeting was Oleksandr Lymar, historian and senior researcher at the Poltava Museum of Local Lore named after Vasyl Krychevskyi. In addition to interested residents of the city, the event was attended by academic staff members of the Department of Foreign Languages with Latin and Medical Terminology headed by Associate Professor Olena Bieliaieva, as well as first-year students of Groups 4, 9, and 12 of the Dental Faculty of Poltava State Medical University.
Future dentists had the opportunity to learn about the history of one of the oldest peoples of Eastern Europe, whose destiny is inseparably connected with Ukraine—a country long known for its peacefulness and centuries-old traditions of coexistence among different peoples, languages, and religions—the Karaims. Students also became acquainted with the peculiarities of their origin, religion, everyday life, traditions, and culture.
Special attention was paid to the history of the Karaim community in the territory of the Poltava Governorate and its contribution to the development of trade, education, and intercultural relations.
In today’s world, where societies increasingly interact with one another, it is especially important to cultivate tolerance, openness to other cultures, and an understanding among young people that cultural diversity is not an obstacle, but rather a source of development and mutual enrichment.
For the participants, the event also provided an opportunity to broaden their worldview, develop critical reflection on historical processes, and once again recognize the value of human dignity regardless of ethnic or religious background.
