В. М. Ждан — автор 678 наукових праць, поміж них: 33 патенти на винахід і корисну модель України, 5 авторських Свідоцтв на твір, 9 монографій, 7 підручників, 44 навчальні й навчально-методичні посібники, 26 методичних рекомендацій, 4 книги з сімейної медицини, 2 латино-українські медичні енциклопедичні словники, 5 інформаційних листів, 20 публікацій у виданнях науково метричних баз Scopus і Web of Science із високим індексом цитування.
Під його керівництвом захищено 9 кандидатських дисертацій. Наукові праці Ждана В. М. присвячені детальному вивченню питання медичної допомоги хворим із ішемічною хворобою серця з усіма її ускладненнями; впливу іонізуючого випромінювання на розвиток і перебіг хвороб серця та кістково-м'язової системи. В. М. Ждан присвячує багато уваги навчанню та підвищенню кваліфікації аспірантів, лікарів-інтернів і лікарів. Саме під керівництвом професора Ждана В. М. була виконана низка наукових досліджень із вивчення питань гемореологічних показників у хворих із хронічною серцевою недостатністю на фоні застосування інгібіторів ангіотензинперетворюючого ферменту у хворих із атеросклерозом змішаного ґенезу, можливостей корекції реологічних і метаболічних порушень у хворих активним ревматичним процесом, застосування екстракорпоральної терапії при корекції імунного статусу у хворих із системним ураженням сполучної тканини, вплив хондропротекторної терапії на клініко-фізіологічні показники у хворих на остеоартроз та ревматоїдний артрит.

V. M. Zhdan is the author of 678 scientific works, including: 33 patents for inventions and utility models of Ukraine, 5 copyright certificates for works, 9 monographs, 7 textbooks, 44 educational and teaching-methodological manuals, 26 methodological recommendations, 4 books on family medicine, 2 Latin–Ukrainian medical encyclopedic dictionaries, 5 informational bulletins, and 20 publications in journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science with a high citation index.
Under his supervision, 9 PhD dissertations have been defended. The scientific works of V. M. Zhdan are dedicated to an in-depth study of medical care for patients with ischemic heart disease and its complications, as well as the impact of ionizing radiation on the development and progression of heart and musculoskeletal diseases. V. M. Zhdan devotes much attention to the education and professional development of postgraduates, medical interns, and physicians.
It was under the guidance of Professor V. M. Zhdan that a number of scientific studies were carried out, including: the investigation of hemorheological parameters in patients with chronic heart failure using angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors in patients with mixed-genesis atherosclerosis; possibilities of correcting rheological and metabolic disorders in patients with active rheumatic processes; the use of extracorporeal therapy in correcting immune status in patients with systemic connective tissue diseases; and the effect of chondroprotective therapy on clinical and physiological indicators in patients with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Professor V. M. Zhdan is the Editor-in-Chief of journals accredited by the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine: Problems of Ecology and Medicine, Bulletin of Problems of Biology and Medicine, Current Problems of Modern Medicine. Bulletin of the Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy, and World of Medicine and Biology. He is also a member of the editorial boards of international professional journals: Innovative Medicine and Biology (Canada) and Journal of Family Medicine and Health Care (JFMHC) (USA).
