Всесвітній день гігієни рук (World Hand Hygiene Day) відзначають 5 травня, починаючи з 2008 року. Ідея такої дати належить Генеральній Асамблеї ООН спільно з Дитячим фондом ЮНІСЕФ і Всесвітньою організацією охорони здоров’я.
Виховні заходи зі студентами-першокурсниками ОПП «Медицина», «Педіатрія», «Стоматологія» відбулися на кафедрі біології у рамках вивчення змістового модуля «Медична паразитологія».
Доценти кафедри біології Костянтин Шевченко, Анжела Ваценко, Наталія Улановська-Циба, Ніна Передерій, Альона Григоренко, Олена Клепець, Олена Рябушко обговорили зі здобувачами освіти основну мету Всесвітнього дня чистих рук – привернення уваги людей до зміни звичок і демонстрація того, як просте миття рук водою з милом допомагає ефективно боротися з численними інфекційними та інвазійними хворобами.
Дату 5 травня вибрано не просто так: п’ятий день п’ятого місяця символізує 5 пальців на кожній руці людини – нагадує про необхідність обробки рук задля збереження життя та здоров’я мільйонів людей і підкреслює особливу важливість гігієни рук як у галузі охорони здоров’я, так і в повсякденному житті.
Щорічна ініціатива «Чисті руки рятують життя» є частиною великих глобальних зусиль ВООЗ, спрямованих на підтримку медичних працівників у поліпшенні гігієни рук, зокрема в тому, що всі медичні працівники повинні мити руки вчасно і належним чином.

Educational Events Dedicated to World Hand Hygiene Day Held at the Department of Biology
World Hand Hygiene Day has been observed annually on May 5 since 2008. The idea for this date was initiated by the United Nations General Assembly in cooperation with UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The events for first-year students of the educational programs “Medicine,” “Pediatrics,” and “Dentistry” took place within the framework of the module “Medical Parasitology.”
Associate Professors of the Department of Biology—Kostiantyn Shevchenko, Anzhela Vatsenko, Nataliia Ulanovska-Tsyba, Nina Perederii, Alona Hryhorenko, Olena Klepets, and Olena Riabushko—discussed with students the main goal of World Hand Hygiene Day: to draw attention to the need for behavioral change and to demonstrate how simple handwashing with soap and water effectively helps prevent numerous infectious and parasitic diseases.
The date of May 5 was not chosen by chance: the fifth day of the fifth month symbolizes the five fingers on each hand, reminding people of the importance of hand hygiene in saving lives and protecting the health of millions, and emphasizing its critical role both in healthcare and in everyday life.
The annual initiative “Clean Hands Save Lives” is part of broader global efforts by the WHO aimed at supporting healthcare workers in improving hand hygiene practices, particularly ensuring that all medical personnel wash their hands properly and at the appropriate times.
