Початок нового навчального року – це завжди погляд у майбутнє. Водночас майбутнє України неможливе без пам’яті про тих, хто віддав життя за можливість для неї бути вільною та незалежною.
1 вересня 2026 року у межах вшанування пам’яті Захисників і Захисниць України, які загинули в боротьбі за незалежність, суверенітет і територіальну цілісність України, на всіх кафедрах Полтавського державного медичного університету для здобувачів освіти провели Загальнонаціональний урок пам’яті «Пам’ятаємо. Шануємо. Продовжуємо: медики та працівники університету – Захисники України».
Проведення уроку було приурочене до Дня пам’яті захисників України, який щороку відзначають 29 серпня. Цього дня Україна вшановує пам’ять тих, хто загинув, захищаючи нашу державу, її незалежність, суверенітет і територіальну цілісність.
Під час уроку зі здобувачами освіти говорили про ціну свободи, мужність і самопожертву українських Захисників і Захисниць, важливість збереження національної пам’яті та відповідальність кожного за майбутнє України. Особливу увагу приділили представникам університетської спільноти, які стали на захист держави та віддали за неї своє життя.
У ПДМУ згадали та вшанували:
Іллю Хондожка – випускника медичного факультету № 1 ПДМУ 2022 року, лікаря евакуаційного відділення медичної роти. Загинув 8 вересня 2024 року.
Олександра Тура – випускника стоматологічного факультету ПДМУ 2022 року, бойового медика 72-ї окремої механізованої бригади імені Чорних Запорожців. Загинув 30 серпня 2024 року.
Дмитра Слабка – здобувача освіти медичного факультету № 2, бойового медика. Загинув 12 лютого 2024 року.
Олександра Капустника – випускника медичного факультету № 1 ПДМУ (тоді – УМСА) 2020 року, начальника медичного пункту, старшого лейтенанта медичної служби. Загинув 14 серпня 2024 року.
Сергія Тараненка – випускника медичного факультету № 1 ПДМУ (тоді – УМСА) 2010 року, старшого бойового медика. Загинув на Бахмутському напрямку.
Олександра Клименка – оператора ПК відділу технічних засобів навчання ПДМУ, солдата, стрільця-зв’язківця взводу зв’язку військової частини. Загинув 3 липня 2024 року.
Їхні імена назавжди залишаються в історії Полтавського державного медичного університету та в пам’яті його спільноти.
Пам’ять про полеглих Захисників – це не лише слова. Це усвідомлення ціни, яку Україна платить за свою свободу, і розуміння того, заради чого сьогодні навчаються майбутні медики, працюють викладачі та живе університет.
Пам’ятаємо тих, хто віддав життя за Україну. Шануємо їхній подвиг. Продовжуємо жити, навчатися і працювати заради майбутнього, за яке вони боролися.

“We Remember. We Honor. We Carry On”: PSMU Holds a Nationwide Memorial Lesson
The beginning of a new academic year is always a time to look ahead and think about the future. Yet Ukraine’s future cannot be separated from the memory of those who gave their lives so that the country could be free and independent.
On 1 September 2026, as part of the commemoration of the Defenders of Ukraine who lost their lives fighting for the country’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, a Nationwide Memorial Lesson, “We Remember. We Honor. We Carry On: Healthcare Professionals and University Staff – Defenders of Ukraine,” was held for students across all departments of Poltava State Medical University (PSMU).
The lesson was held in connection with the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine, observed annually on 29 August. On this day, Ukraine honors the memory of those who gave their lives defending the country, its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
During the lesson, students reflected on the price of freedom, the courage and self-sacrifice of Ukraine’s Defenders, the importance of preserving national memory, and each person’s responsibility for the country’s future. Special attention was given to members of the university community who took up the defence of Ukraine and sacrificed their lives for their country.
The PSMU community remembered and honoured:
Illia Khondozhko – a 2022 graduate of PSMU’s Faculty of Medicine No. 1 and a physician with the evacuation unit of a medical company. He was killed in action on 8 September 2024.
Oleksandr Tur – a 2022 graduate of PSMU’s Faculty of Dentistry and a combat medic with the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians. He was killed in action on 30 August 2024.
Dmytro Slabko – a student of PSMU’s Faculty of Medicine No. 2 and a combat medic. He was killed in action on 12 February 2024.
Oleksandr Kapustnyk – a 2020 graduate of PSMU’s Faculty of Medicine No. 1 (then the Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy), Head of a medical aid station and Senior Lieutenant of the Medical Service. He was killed in action on 14 August 2024.
Serhii Taranenko – a 2010 graduate of PSMU’s Faculty of Medicine No. 1 (then the Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy) and a senior combat medic. He was killed in action in the Bakhmut area.
Oleksandr Klymenko – a PC operator in PSMU’s Department of Technical Teaching Aids, a soldier and rifleman-signaller with a communications platoon of a military unit. He was killed in action on 3 July 2024.
Their names will forever remain part of the history of Poltava State Medical University and live on in the memory of its community.
Remembering the fallen Defenders is about more than simply preserving their names in history. It means recognizing the price Ukraine is paying for its freedom and understanding what today’s students, future healthcare professionals, teachers, and the entire university community are working for.
We remember those who gave their lives for Ukraine. We honor their courage and sacrifice. We carry on—living, learning, and working for the future they fought for.
