Студенти Полтавського державного медичного університету долучилися до заходів із вшанування Дня Героїв – дати пам’яті, вдячності та шани всім, хто в різні історичні періоди боронив суверенітет і незалежність України, а також сучасним Захисникам і Захисницям держави.
23 травня 2026 року у Полтаві відбулося освячення дубової алеї «Дубова Варта» у міському парку культури та відпочинку «Перемога», яке провели священнослужителі Полтавської єпархії ПЦУ. Меморіальний простір створено восени минулого року за участі родин полеглих Захисників, представників міської влади, військовослужбовців Полтавського гарнізону, духовенства єпархії ПЦУ, студентів ПДМУ та мешканців громади. Алея присвячена пам’яті полеглих Захисників і Захисниць України.
Студенти університету системно долучаються до формування та впорядкування цього простору. Під керівництвом голови ради ветеранів ПДМУ Віктора Лебедєва вони брали участь у висадженні 75 саджанців дуба, а також у подальшому догляді за насадженнями, прибиранні та впорядкуванні території. Дубова алея стала символом пам’яті, сили та незламності українського народу.
У межах розвитку меморіального простору за підтримки Полтавської міської влади на території алеї встановлено інформаційні таблички та лавки для відпочинку.

День Героїв – загальнонаціональне свято, започатковане у 1941 році Організацією Українських Націоналістів (ОУН) на Другому Великому Зборі як день вшанування всіх борців за свободу України. Це неофіційне, але важливе громадське свято пам’яті та вдячності, що об’єднує покоління українських захисників.
Відзначення Дня Героїв у травні пов’язане з трагічними подіями в історії українського визвольного руху: загибеллю Миколи Міхновського (3 травня 1924 р.), убивством Євгена Коновальця (23 травня 1938 р.) та Симона Петлюри (25 травня 1926 р.).
Сьогодні День Героїв об’єднує пам’ять про всіх, хто в різні епохи боровся за українську державність: воїнів Київської Русі та козаків, січових стрільців, вояків Армії УНР та Української повстанської армії, Героїв Небесної Сотні, а також сучасних Захисників і Захисниць України, які протистоять російській агресії.

PSMU Joined the Commemoration of Ukraine’s Heroes Day
Students of Poltava State Medical University took part in events dedicated to Heroes Day — a date of remembrance, gratitude and honor for all those who, in different historical periods, defended the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, as well as for contemporary Defenders of the state.
On May 23, 2026, a consecration ceremony of the oak alley “Oak Guard” took place in Poltava at the “Peremoha” City Park of Culture and Recreation, conducted by clergy of the Poltava Eparchy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). The memorial space was created last autumn with the participation of families of fallen Defenders, representatives of the city authorities, servicemen of the Poltava garrison, clergy of the OCU, PSMU students, and community residents. The alley is dedicated to the memory of fallen Defenders of Ukraine.
University students systematically participate in the formation and maintenance of this space. Under the guidance of the head of the PSMU Veterans Council, Viktor Lebedev, they took part in planting 75 oak saplings, as well as in the further care of the plantings, cleaning, and maintenance of the area. The oak alley has become a symbol of remembrance, strength, and the indomitability of the Ukrainian people.
As part of the development of the memorial space, and with the support of the Poltava City authorities, informational plaques and benches for rest have been installed along the alley.
Background
Heroes Day is a nationwide commemorative holiday established in 1941 by the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists at its Second Great Assembly as a day of honoring all fighters for Ukraine’s freedom. It is an unofficial but important public day of remembrance and gratitude that unites generations of Ukrainian defenders.
The observance of Heroes Day in May is connected to tragic events in the history of the Ukrainian liberation movement: the death of Mykola Mikhnovsky (May 3, 1924), the assassination of Yevhen Konovalets (May 23, 1938), and the assassination of Symon Petliura (May 25, 1926).
Today, Heroes Day unites the memory of all who, in different eras, fought for Ukrainian statehood: warriors of Kyivan Rus, Cossacks, Sich Riflemen, soldiers of the Ukrainian People’s Republic Army and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, as well as modern Defenders of Ukraine who are resisting russian aggression.
