10 липня 2026 року в народному музеї історії Полтавського державного медичного університету відбувся захід із вшанування загиблих медичних працівників України. ПДМУ вдруге долучився до офіційного загальнонаціонального Дня вшанування загиблих медиків та всеукраїнської меморіальної ініціативи «Посвіт пам’яті», яка об’єднує медичну спільноту, заклади охорони здоров’я та освіти, громади й родини загиблих задля збереження пам’яті про тих, хто до останнього виконував свій професійний обов’язок.
Ініціатива «Посвіт пам’яті» бере свій початок від створення Книги пам’яті загиблих медиків України, започаткованої Головою Поважної Ради Відзнаки «Орден Святого Пантелеймона» Василем Князевичем у співпраці з Міністерством охорони здоров’я України, Національною науковою медичною бібліотекою України та регіональними радами. Ініціатива «Посвіт пам’яті» стала символом професійної честі, вдячності та поваги до медиків, які ціною власного життя рятували інших.
Присутні згадали медиків, які працювали під звуки сирен – у прифронтових лікарнях, стабілізаційних пунктах, операційних та бригадах екстреної медичної допомоги.
Серед загиблих медичних працівників – 181 медик із Полтавщини. Їхні імена назавжди залишаться в історії української медицини, у пам’яті колег, студентів і пацієнтів.
Хвилиною мовчання присутні вшанували світлу пам’ять медиків, які загинули, виконуючи свій професійний обов’язок.
До учасників заходу звернувся проректор з науково-педагогічної та виховної роботи ПДМУ, професор Валерій Похилько.
«За кожною світлиною цих загиблих медиків – історія людей, які були сповнені патріотизму й самопожертви. Пам’ять про них назавжди залишиться з нами. Ми всі хочемо, щоб ця війна якнайшвидше завершилася і більше не було людських втрат».
Слова вдячності родинам загиблих медиків та поваги до їхнього подвигу висловила начальник Управління у справах реінтеграції, соціального захисту ветеранів та внутрішньо переміщених осіб Полтавської обласної військової адміністрації Ольга Саєнко.
«Сьогодні хочу висловити особливу вдячність родинам тих, хто віддав своє життя, рятуючи інших, а також батькам, які виховали гідних синів і дочок України. Ми пишаємося цими людьми, їхньою мужністю та відданістю своєму покликанню. Дякуємо також організаторам цього заходу за можливість разом зберігати пам’ять про наших Героїв».
Своїми думками поділився і випускник ПДМУ, колишній асистент кафедри хірургічної стоматології та щелепно-лицевої хірургії університету, полковник медичної служби, кавалер «Ордена Святого Пантелеймона» 2024 року Валерій Бондаренко. Із перших днів повномасштабної війни він перебував на передовій, виконуючи свій професійний і військовий обов’язок. Після завершення військової служби за віком Валерій Бондаренко продовжив служити людям – нині працює фахівцем із супроводу ветеранів.
«Сьогодні медики перебувають на особливій лінії відповідальності. Попри небезпеку й постійні загрози, вони продовжують рятувати життя наших захисників і цивільних. Серед них – і випускники ПДМУ, зокрема стоматологи, які щодня виконують свою благородну місію. Дякуємо їм за цю важливу працю», – зазначив Валерій Бондаренко.
До присутніх також звернулися заступник командира військової частини А3114 з психологічної підтримки персоналу Сергій Сьомін та голова правління ГО «Полтавська обласна організація інвалідів війни, Збройних Сил, учасників бойових дій та Силових Структур» Іван Якушев.
У своїх виступах вони підкреслювали: професія медика – це не лише знання та професійна майстерність, а й відвага, милосердя, відповідальність і готовність служити людям навіть у найважчих умовах.
На завершення відбулася символічна акція пам’яті – присутні запалили свічки на знак вдячності медикам, які не повернулися додому.
Після офіційної частини зробили спільне фото, а для гостей заходу провели екскурсію народним музеєм історії ПДМУ. Серед учасників заходу були представники медичної спільноти, співробітники університету, запрошені колеги-медики та випускники ПДМУ, які нині захищають Україну.

Пам’ять про медиків, які віддали найдорожче, живе не лише в музейних експозиціях і книгах. Вона продовжується у щоденній праці лікарів, у студентських аудиторіях, у врятованих життях і в серцях тих, хто пам’ятає.

"Light of Remembrance": PSMU Honors Healthcare Professionals Who Gave Their Lives to Save Others
On 10 July 2026, the People's Museum of History at Poltava State Medical University (PSMU) hosted a commemorative event honoring Ukrainian healthcare professionals who lost their lives while fulfilling their professional duty. For the second consecutive year, PSMU joined the National Day of Remembrance for Fallen Healthcare Workers and the nationwide memorial initiative "Light of Remembrance", which brings together the medical community, healthcare and educational institutions, local communities, and the families of the fallen to preserve the memory of those who remained dedicated to saving lives until their final moments.
The "Light of Remembrance" initiative originated from the creation of the Book of Remembrance of Fallen Healthcare Professionals of Ukraine, launched by Vasyl Knyazevych, Chairman of the Honorary Council of the Order of Saint Panteleimon, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the National Scientific Medical Library of Ukraine, and regional councils. Today, the initiative has become a symbol of professional honor, gratitude, and respect for healthcare professionals who sacrificed their own lives to save others.
During the event, participants paid tribute to healthcare workers who continued to serve under air raid sirens in frontline hospitals, stabilization points, operating theatres, and emergency medical teams.
Among those who lost their lives are 181 healthcare professionals from the Poltava region. Their names will forever remain in the history of Ukrainian medicine and in the memories of their colleagues, students, and patients.
The audience observed a minute of silence in memory of the healthcare professionals who died while carrying out their professional duties.
Participants were addressed by Professor Valerii Pokhylko, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Extracurricular Activity at PSMU.
"Behind every photograph of these fallen healthcare professionals is the story of individuals whose lives were defined by patriotism and self-sacrifice. Their memory will remain with us forever. We all hope that this war will end as soon as possible and that no more lives will be lost."
Words of gratitude to the families of the fallen and respect for their sacrifice were expressed by Olha Saienko, Head of the Department for Reintegration, Social Protection of Veterans, and Internally Displaced Persons of the Poltava Regional Military Administration.
"Today, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the families of those who gave their lives while saving others, as well as to the parents who raised such sons and daughters of Ukraine. We are proud of these people, their courage, and their unwavering dedication to their calling. I would also like to thank the organizers of this event for giving us the opportunity to preserve together the memory of our Heroes."
The audience also heard remarks from Valerii Bondarenko, a PSMU graduate, former Assistant Professor of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Colonel of the Medical Service, and recipient of the Order of Saint Panteleimon 2024. From the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion, he served on the front line, fulfilling both his medical and military responsibilities. Following his retirement from military service due to age, he has continued serving society as a Veteran Support Specialist.
"Today, healthcare professionals stand on a unique front line of responsibility. Despite constant danger and ongoing threats, they continue saving the lives of both our defenders and civilians. Among them are many PSMU graduates, including dentists who faithfully carry out their noble mission every day. We thank them for their invaluable service," said Valerii Bondarenko.
The event also featured speeches by Serhii Somin, Deputy Commander of Military Unit A3114 for Personnel Psychological Support, and Ivan Yakushev, Chairman of the NGO Poltava Regional Organization of War Veterans, Armed Forces Veterans, Combat Participants, and Members of Security Services.
In their remarks, they emphasized that the medical profession is defined not only by knowledge and professional expertise, but also by courage, compassion, responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to serving people, even under the most difficult circumstances.
The ceremony concluded with a symbolic act of remembrance as participants lit candles in honor of the healthcare professionals who never returned home.
Following the official program, participants gathered for a group photograph and were invited on a guided tour of the People's Museum of History at PSMU. Among those attending were representatives of the medical community, university staff, invited healthcare professionals, and PSMU alumni who are currently serving in Ukraine's defense.
The event was moderated by Tamila Dashevska, Director of the People's Museum of History at PSMU.
The memory of the healthcare professionals who gave the ultimate sacrifice lives on not only in museum exhibitions and memorial books. It continues through the daily work of physicians, in university classrooms, in every life saved, and in the hearts of all who remember.
