15 квітня 2026 року за ініціативи завідувачки кафедри іноземних мов з латинською мовою та медичною термінологією ПДМУ, доцента Олени Бєляєвої, відбувся просвітницько-виховний захід на базі Полтавської обласної універсальної наукової бібліотеки імені І. П. Котляревського. Захід організовано у межах традиційної співпраці з бібліотекою за участю головного бібліотекаря відділу обслуговування користувачів Марини Купріянової.
Учасниками заходу стали науково-педагогічні працівники кафедри та здобувачі вищої освіти 11 і 13 груп І курсу стоматологічного факультету, 3 групи І курсу медичного факультету №1, а також групи 11/9Ф І курсу фахового медико-фармацевтичного коледжу Полтавського державного медичного університету.
Захід «Зрадник чи державник? Політична стратегія гетьмана Мазепи очима XXI століття» провела викладачка історії Полтавського національного педагогічного університету імені В. Г. Короленка Анна Гончаренко.
Під час зустрічі учасники ознайомилися з особливостями політичної стратегії гетьмана Івана Мазепи, яка в сучасних умовах оцінюється значно ширше, ніж у попередні століття. З позиції XXI століття його дії можна розглядати як прагматичну спробу зберегти автономію України в умовах геополітичного тиску.
Окрему увагу було приділено тому, що Мазепа діяв в умовах складної системи альянсів XVIII століття, балансуючи між Московським царством і європейськими державами, тому союз зі Швецією розглядається як ризикований, але логічний крок у боротьбі за незалежність України.
Такий підхід дає змогу сучасним дослідникам трактувати постать Мазепи як далекоглядного політика, який прагнув використати міжнародну ситуацію на користь української державності.
Стратегія Мазепи засвідчує, що навіть у складних історичних умовах можна віднайти альтернативні шляхи розвитку, а його постать залишається символом боротьби за суверенітет України.
Такі заходи сприяють розширенню світогляду студентів-медиків, розвитку критичного мислення та допомагають краще осмислювати історичні події крізь призму сучасності, що є важливим для формування свідомої громадянської позиції майбутніх фахівців.

PSMU Students Attend an Educational Event Dedicated to the Political Strategy of Ivan Mazepa
On April 15, 2026, at the initiative of Associate Professor Olena Bieliaieva, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages with Latin and Medical Terminology at PSMU, an educational and awareness-raising event was held at the Poltava Regional Universal Scientific Library named after I. P. Kotliarevskyi. The event was organized within ongoing cooperation with the library, with the participation of Maryna Kupriianova, Chief Librarian of the User Services Department.
Participants included academic staff of the department and students of Groups 11 and 13 (first year of study, Faculty of Dentistry), Group 3 (first year of study, Faculty of Medicine No. 1), as well as Group 11/9F of the first year of study at the Professional Medical and Pharmaceutical College of Poltava State Medical University.
The event, titled “Traitor or Statesman? The Political Strategy of Hetman Mazepa through the Eyes of the 21st Century,” was delivered by Anna Honcharenko, a history lecturer at Poltava V. H. Korolenko National Pedagogical University.
During the meeting, participants explored the key features of the political strategy of Hetman Ivan Mazepa, which is now assessed much more broadly than in previous centuries. From a 21st-century perspective, his actions can be interpreted as a pragmatic attempt to preserve Ukraine’s autonomy under conditions of geopolitical pressure.
Special attention was given to the fact that Mazepa operated within a complex system of alliances in the 18th century, balancing between the tsardom of muscovy and European states. Therefore, his alliance with Sweden is viewed as a risky yet logical step in the struggle for Ukraine’s independence.
This approach enables modern scholars to interpret Mazepa as a far-sighted politician who sought to use the international situation to advance Ukrainian statehood.
Mazepa’s strategy demonstrates that even in difficult historical circumstances, alternative paths of development can be found, while his figure remains a symbol of the struggle for Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Such events contribute to broadening the worldview of medical students, fostering critical thinking, and helping them better understand historical events through a modern lens—an essential component in shaping the civic awareness of future professionals.
