Department of Internal Medicine No. 3 with Phthisiology Holds Themed Lesson to Mark the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language
On 27 October 2026, the Department of Internal Medicine No. 3 with Phthisiology at Poltava State Medical University (PSMU) held a themed lesson entitled “Everything from the Past Remains—Only the Word Never Fades” for fifth-year students of Group 4 of the Faculty of Dentistry.
The event was conducted by the department’s academic staff: Acting Head of the Department Nataliia Dihtiar; Associate Professors Anna Lavrenko, Nataliia Herasymenko, and Alla Vorodiukhina; and Assistants Oksana Bielan, Maryna Kulish, Yanina Avramenko, and Yevhen Rybаlchenko.
During the lesson, participants discussed the importance of the Ukrainian language as an integral part of national identity and its role in preserving the historical memory, culture, and traditions of the Ukrainian people.
The Ukrainian language has undergone a long process of development, enduring numerous hardships and attempts to restrict its use. Nevertheless, the Ukrainian word has been preserved in folk songs and oral traditions, chronicles, literary works, and everyday communication, passing on the experiences and memories of previous generations.
The language has travelled a long path through the centuries, bringing the memory of past generations to the present day. This is why the words “Everything from the Past Remains—Only the Word Never Fades,” which inspired the lesson, carry special meaning: words preserve the experience of the past and pass it on to future generations.
The department’s representatives also recommended the book Ethnology for the People: Ukrainian Holidays, Traditions, Customs, Rituals, Omens, and Beliefs by historian and ethnologist Iryna Ihnatenko. The publication introduces readers to the traditions, customs, and spiritual heritage of the Ukrainian people.
The Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, celebrated annually on 27 October, serves as a reminder of the value of one's native language and its role in the life of a nation. Language unites generations, preserves the past, and helps build the future. As long as the Ukrainian word continues to be spoken, our culture, our memory, and our Ukraine will live on.
