“A Memory That Never Fades”: The Department of Internal Medicine No. 3 with Phthisiology Holds an Educational Event

On 28 October, the Day of the Liberation of Ukraine from Nazi Occupation—commemorated in Ukraine as the day Nazi occupiers were driven out of Ukraine—faculty members of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 3 with Phthisiology at Poltava State Medical University (PSMU), Oksana Bielan, Anna Lavrenko, Nataliia Dihtiar, Nataliia Herasymenko, Yanina Avramenko, Maryna Kulish, Alla Vorodiukhina and Yevhen Rybalchenko, held an educational and awareness-raising event entitled “A Memory That Never Fades” for the fifth-year students of group 2 of the Medical Faculty No. 1.

During the meeting, participants discussed the events of the Second World War, the consequences of the Nazi occupation of Ukrainian lands and the importance of preserving historical memory.

On 28 October 2026, Ukraine marks 82 years since Nazi occupiers were driven out of most of its territory. The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance recommends using the wording “the day nazi occupiers were driven out of Ukraine” instead of the established name “Day of the Liberation of Ukraine from Nazi Invaders,” since following the end of the nazi occupation, Ukrainian lands remained under soviet rule. Hostilities in Zakarpattia continued after 28 October 1944, and nazi occupiers were not completely driven out of the region until late November 1944.

Reflecting on the events of the Second World War helps us better understand the consequences of occupation, the value of human life, and the importance of Ukraine’s freedom and independence. In the context of russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine, preserving historical truth and collective memory has taken on particular significance.

The participants honored the memory of those who perished in the Second World War and paid tribute to Ukrainian service members who are defending the country today. Preserving historical truth helps ensure that the memory of the past is passed on to future generations.
