Words as Both Sword and Shield: PSMU Departments of Ukrainian Studies and Human Anatomy Join the National Unity Radio Dictation

To mark the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, academic staff of the Department of Ukrainian Studies and Humanities, headed by Associate Professor Tetiana Leshchenko, and the Department of Human Anatomy, headed by Professor Volodymyr Hryn, took part in the National Unity Radio Dictation.

In the ethnography classroom, academic staff from both departments joined millions of Ukrainians around the world in writing the dictation simultaneously, united by the Ukrainian word.

Amid the struggle for Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity, the National Unity Radio Dictation is not merely a test of literacy but also a symbol of Ukrainian unity. PSMU lecturers’ participation in this nationwide initiative demonstrates their respect for the state language and their recognition of its importance in preserving national identity.

Today, language is a marker of national identity and one of the principal lines of defense. Writing the dictation together with the rest of the country means holding the cultural and spiritual front and protecting Ukraine’s information space against attempts at assimilation.

The academic staff of the Department of Ukrainian Studies and Humanities and the Department of Human Anatomy play a direct role in shaping the worldview of future healthcare professionals. Their personal participation in patriotic events is an effective way to educate students: by setting an example, they demonstrate to future doctors, pharmacists, occupational therapists, and nurses that respect for the state language is an integral part of professional culture, patriotism, and intellectual refinement.

This event once again demonstrates that the PSMU academic community not only nurtures the native language in the classroom but also contributes to building a united, strong, and conscious Ukrainian society.
