Науковці кафедри іноземних мов з латинською мовою та медичною термінологією (завідувач кафедри, кандидат педагогічних наук, доцент Олена Бєляєва; доцент, кандидат філологічних наук Юлія Лисанець), анатомії з клінічною анатомією та оперативною хірургією (завідувач кафедри, доктор біологічних наук, професор Сергій Білаш), біології (т.в.о. завідувача кафедри, PhD, доцент Костянтин Шевченко; аспірант третього року навчання Ігор Бєляєв), анатомії людини (доцент, кандидат біологічних наук Валентина Білаш) об’єднали зусилля для створення «Dictionarium bilingue (Latinum-Ucrainicum) nominum plantarum, algarum et fungorum = Двомовний словник (латинсько-український) назв рослин, водоростей і грибів» – фундаментального довідкового видання, спрямованого на уніфікацію та розвиток біологічної термінології.
Особливістю словника є подання реєстрового слова – родової латинської назви із зазначенням словникової форми, що містить необхідну граматичну інформацію: рід, число, відміну, відмінок, змінність або незмінність. Також подано словникові форми інших таксонів, що сприяє систематизації, кращому розумінню граматичних особливостей та грамотному використанню в усному й писемному мовленні.
З огляду на відсутність українських відповідників для багатьох ендемічних рослин автори запропонували можливі українські назви-кальки, максимально наближені до латинських. Також вони вважали за доцільне зменшити кількість українських синонімічних, зокрема діалектних і застарілих назв, натомість залишивши сучасні морфологічні та орфографічні варіанти. Такий підхід сприятиме подальшій стандартизації та впорядкуванню національної термінології.
Автори впевнені, що словник стане у пригоді в науково-дослідній роботі, адже правильне використання термінології є важливою умовою підготовки наукових публікацій, дисертацій, статей і звітів. Видання також дозволить забезпечити точність перекладу термінів, узгодженість назв рослин і відповідність міжнародним стандартам номенклатури, що сприятиме підвищенню якості наукових досліджень та інтеграції українських науковців у міжнародну наукову спільноту.
Видання також може сприяти популяризації ботанічних знань серед широкого кола читачів, адже інтерес до рослинного світу постійно зростає, зокрема у зв’язку з розвитком екологічної свідомості, природоохоронної діяльності та вивчення біорізноманіття.

Joint scholarly effort: a Latin–Ukrainian dictionary of plants, algae and fungi has been published
Researchers from the Department of Foreign Languages with Latin and Medical Terminology (Associate Professor Olena Bieliaieva, Head of Department, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences; Associate Professor Yuliia Lysanets, PhD in Philological Sciences ), the Department of Anatomy with Clinical Anatomy and Operative Surgery (Professor Serhii Bilash Head of Department, Doctor of Biological Sciences), the Department of Biology (Associate Professor Kostiantyn Shevchenko, Acting Head of Department, PhD); Ihor Bieliaiev, a third-year PhD student , and the Department of Human Anatomy (Associate Professor Valentyna Bilash, PhD in Biological Sciences) joined their efforts to create the
“Dictionarium bilingue (Latinum–Ucrainicum) nominum plantarum, algarum et fungorum = Bilingual Dictionary (Latin–Ukrainian) of Names of Plants, Algae and Fungi” — a fundamental reference work aimed at standardizing and developing biological terminology.
A distinctive feature of the dictionary is the presentation of each headword as a generic Latin name accompanied by its dictionary form, including essential grammatical information: gender, number, declension, case, and whether it is inflected or indeclinable. Dictionary forms of other taxonomic units are also provided, which contributes to systematization, a better understanding of grammatical features, and correct usage in both spoken and written language.
Given the absence of Ukrainian equivalents for many endemic plant species, the authors proposed possible Ukrainian calque-based names, closely aligned with the Latin originals. They also considered it appropriate to reduce the number of Ukrainian synonymous names, particularly dialectal and obsolete ones, while retaining modern morphological and orthographic variants. This approach will facilitate further standardization and structuring of national terminology.
The authors are confident that the dictionary will be useful in research work, as the correct use of terminology is an important prerequisite for preparing scientific publications, dissertations, articles, and reports. The publication will also ensure accurate translation of terms, consistency of plant names, and compliance with international nomenclature standards, thereby improving the quality of scientific research and supporting the integration of Ukrainian scholars into the international academic community.
The dictionary may also contribute to popularizing botanical knowledge among a wider audience, as interest in the plant world continues to grow, particularly in connection with the development of environmental awareness, conservation activities, and the study of biodiversity.
