Dance as a Means of Rehabilitation: PSMU Holds a Practical Session on Dance Therapy

On 26 October 2026, as part of Occupational Therapy Week, the Department of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at Poltava State Medical University (PSMU) held a practical dance therapy session for students enrolled in Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy educational programs, with the participation of the department’s academic staff.

The session was led by Iryna Liublinska, Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at PSMU and Director of the university’s Orkhideia Ballroom and Sport Dance Ensemble.

During the session, participants explored the potential of dance and rhythmic movements in occupational therapy. With the participation of the dance and movement therapy rehabilitation group, students performed coordination exercises and moved to music, discovering how dance can combine physical activity, emotional engagement, and social interaction.

Dance therapy can complement traditional rehabilitation approaches, particularly by helping to develop coordination, balance, and motor control.

The session gave future physical and occupational therapists an opportunity to broaden their understanding of the diverse methods used in rehabilitation and explore the therapeutic potential of movement, music, and creativity.
