10 березня 2026 року у читальній залі Полтавського державного медичного університету відбулося урочисте відкриття виставки відомої полтавської вишивальниці Зої Коваленко. Раніше виставка подорожувала різними містами України, і навіть була представлена на Майдані під час Революції Гідності. Захід організовано за сприяння ГО «Захист Держави».
Зі вступним словом виступив проректор з науково-педагогічної та виховної роботи ПДМУ, професор Валерій Похилько. Він підкреслив значення творчої спадщини Тараса Шевченка для студентства та наголосив на потребі перечитувати «Кобзар» і переосмислювати його у сучасному контексті українських подій.
Завідувачка кафедри українознавства та гуманітарної підготовки ПДМУ Тетяна Лещенко розпочала офіційну частину заходу. Вона підкреслила важливість Дня пам’яті Шевченка та наголосила, що виставка є унікальним художнім, етнографічним та екзистенційним явищем, що свідчить про глибоку шану українського народу до генія. Тетяна Лещенко також розповіла, що у творчому доробку Зої Коваленко понад 150 робіт, присвячених Шевченку, серед яких портрети та рушники з уривками з «Кобзаря». Майстриня поєднує текст і образ, передаючи своє ставлення до Шевченка та позицію українки, яка обирає слово як мистецький засіб.
Через стан здоров’я майстриня не змогла приїхати, тому присутні переглянули два відеосюжети. В одному з них вона зазначила: «Тарас Шевченко для мене – це моє все». Зоя Коваленко пояснила, що підбирає слова і образи, щоб достукатися до тих, хто ще не дуже добре знайомий з творчістю поета.
Своїми враженнями від виставки поділився представник Полтавського міського осередку ГО «Захист Держави» та учасник бойових дій Степан Чуприна, випускник УМСА (нині ПДМУ). Він процитував уривок із поеми «Катерина» Тараса Шевченка та закликав вивчати власну історію.
Олександр Артеменко, керівник Полтавського міського осередку ГО «Захист Держави», подякував адміністрації ПДМУ за співпрацю та допомогу в організації заходу, а також висловив шану усім захисникам і захисницям України, які створюють умови для проведення культурних і освітніх подій у Полтаві.

PSMU Opens an Embroidery Exhibition by Zoia Kovalenko Dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of Taras Shevchenko
On March 10, 2026, the reading hall of Poltava State Medical University hosted the ceremonial opening of an exhibition by the well-known Poltava embroiderer Zoia Kovalenko. The exhibition had previously traveled to various cities across Ukraine and was even presented on Maidan Nezalezhnosti during the Revolution of Dignity. The event was organized with the support of the Zakhyst Derzhavy.
The opening remarks were delivered by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Extracurricular Activities at PSMU, Professor Valerii Pokhylko. He emphasized the importance of the creative legacy of Taras Shevchenko for students and highlighted the need to reread the Kobzar and reinterpret it in the context of contemporary events in Ukraine.
The official part of the event was opened by Tetiana Leshchenko, Head of the Department of Ukrainian Studies and Humanities at PSMU. She emphasized the significance of the Day of Remembrance of Taras Shevchenko, noting that the exhibition represents a unique artistic, ethnographic, and existential phenomenon reflecting the deep respect of the Ukrainian people for the poet’s genius. Tetiana Leshchenko also noted that Zoia Kovalenko’s creative portfolio includes more than 150 works dedicated to Shevchenko, including portraits and embroidered ritual towels featuring excerpts from Kobzar. The craftswoman combines text and image, conveying both her personal attitude toward Shevchenko and the perspective of a Ukrainian woman who chooses the word as an artistic medium.
Due to health reasons, the artist was unable to attend the opening in person, so the audience watched two video presentations. In one of them, she said: “For me, Taras Shevchenko is everything.” Zoia Kovalenko explained that she carefully selects words and images to reach those who may not yet be deeply familiar with the poet’s work.
Stepan Chupryna, a representative of the Poltava city branch of Zakhyst Derzhavy and a combat veteran, as well as a graduate of Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy (now PSMU), shared his impressions of the exhibition. He quoted an excerpt from the poem Kateryna by Taras Shevchenko and called on the audience to study their own history.
Oleksandr Artemenko, Head of the Poltava city branch of the organization Zakhyst Derzhavy, thanked the administration of PSMU for their cooperation and assistance in organizing the event. He also expressed respect to all defenders of Ukraine who create the conditions necessary for holding cultural and educational events in Poltava.
Background: Zoia Kovalenko is a well-known Poltava embroiderer, human rights advocate, and public figure. She served as the head of the Poltava regional branch of the People's Movement of Ukraine (1989–1993) and is the author of the book Rukh – tse zhyttia (“Rukh is Life”).
The exhibition became part of the cultural and educational activities of the university, once again reminding students and the wider community of the greatness of Taras Shevchenko and his significance for the Ukrainian nation.
